With 2014 comes an exciting vista of new films, done as only Bollywood can. The stars are ready to shine in epic stories, fun comedies, and of course, dancing to the filmi beat! There are so many films to look forward to that I thought I would highlight some you will want to add to your night at the movies!

This year, there aren’t many epic romances on the cards, but there are plenty of films for you to enjoy on your Date Night!

gundayposterFor a perfect date movie that has some full on action for him, and some love triangle romance for her, we have Gunday, which is described as the most sensational-most thrilling-most dramatic story ever told.

Starring Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Priyanka Chopra, the film, which hits theatres on Valentine’s Day, is one to see on the big screen.

On the 28th of February comes Shaadi Ke Side Effects starring Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan. Star Farhan Akhtar has said this film is a rom-com but leans heavily towards the comical side of dealing with what happens after the wedding, in its prequel, Pyaar Ke Side Effects. shaadhikesideeffectsposter

Two of Bollywood’s best are getting ready to battle it out, and we’re not talking about heroes; no, this is heroines and it doesn’t get any better than Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit!

The two go head-to-head in a good versus evil war in Gulaab Gang! Madhuri Dixit plays the role of ‘Rajjo’, a fierce leader of Gulaab Gang, who fights against the evil politico ‘Sumitra Devi’ played by Juhi Chawla. You can watch the epic battle March 7th.

Though maybe not the film for getting the romance on, one we have on our must-see list is Haider with Shahid Kapoor, a remake of Shakespeare’s Hamlet done as only Vishal Bhardwaj can! Haider-Pic-2

Other films to watch for are Phantom with Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan, Kick with Salman Khan, Action Jackson with Akshay Kumar, Mardaani with Rani Mukerji, Singham 2 with Ajay Devgn, and 2 States with Arjun Kapoor.

The end of the year has some more gems: PK with Anushka Sharma and Aamir Khan, and Bombay Velvet with Anushka and Ranbir Kapoor.

As for films for your kids to enjoy, check out these picks!

Though maybe for older kids, Detective Byomkesh Bakshi starring Sushant Singh Rajput, came out on December 16th! Based on the novels and television show, we can’t wait to see this 1940’s detective character come to life on the big screen.

Again, maybe for the older kids or the young at heart in the house, Bang Bang starring Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif is one you must have on your list to see in 2014. A remake of Hollywood’s Knight and Day (which starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz), the action, the romance and that jodi is one we can’t wait to see!

Hawaa Hawaai is a film treat for all ages. Directed by Amole Gupte of Stanley Ka Dabba and Taare Zameen Par fame, it will hit theatres on April 18th. They’re not revealing much about the story, but we do know that Saqib Saleem plays a skating coach and that the film is about dreamers and how dreams can be achieved.

Amitabh Bachchan is back as the benevolent ghost in Bhoothnath Returns. We can’t wait to see what cool story the actor will bring to the screen in the sequel to the hit Bhoothnath!

Farah Khan is back with Happy New Year, a film that boasts an all-star cast, including Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood and Boman Irani. Keep this one in mind for a family night at the movies!

kochadaiiyaanAlso coming is the futuristic fantasy Kochadaiiyaan – The Legend! which will hit the big screen worldwide on April 11. The great thing about this movie is that Kochadaiiyaan features Photorealistic Performance Capture technology, which you have seen in Avatar and Tin Tin.

Kochadaiiyaan is an epic dramatization of good versus evil, starring South Indian megastar Rajinikanth in a double role, along with Deepika Padukone.

Sadly, we were all excited to have Ranbir Kapoor’s Disney’s Jagga Jasoos on the list, but that is not releasing now until 2015!

The Queen of Bollywood in 2014!

Last year, most definitely, was the year of Deepika Padukone, so who do we think will be the rani of 2014? This was a hard choice and we narrowed it down to Madhuri Dixit, Katrina Kaif or Anushka Sharma. So who came out on top?

We think Anushka Sharma will be the powerhouse of Bollywood in 2014. With PK opposite Aamir Khan, NH 10 and the epic Bombay Velvet with Ranbir Kapoor, we can’t wait to see what she will bring to the silver screen!
