Recently Godiva celebrated five years of Sweet! at New York City’s Food & Wine Festival. Sweet it was indeed! The event was hosted in a two story loft in SoHo. There were tables upon tables of desserts, a Borgatapoker area, and celebrity chefs! It was a magical evening to devour sweets, celebrate five successful years and help raise funds for hunger relief.

Sweet! was established in 2007 and was the first of it’s kind. After seeing its success, festival founder & director Lee Brian Schrager expanded the event to include an entire weekend of tasting events and added a sister event in South Beach, FL. Both festivals benefit the hunger-relief programs of Food Bank For New York City and Share Our Strength. One hundred percent of the net proceeds from the festival go directly to these community-based organizations.

Food Network star, Sandra Lee, of “Semi-Homemade Cooking,” was the host of the event which included mouthwatering cupcake tables, an Illy barista station, an ice cream bar and an abundance of Godiva truffles.

My favorite was a pink peppercorn brownie served by Le Bernardin. It was sweet & moist, with the perfect zing of spice after every bite. In addition to the wonderful desserts there were special appearances made by celebrity chefs: Bobby Flay, Jacques Torres and Geoffrey Zakarian.

The venue was draped in gold, brown and white balloons, elegant streamers hanging from the ceiling and columns created of Godiva truffle boxes, as the smell of chocolate filled the air. The evening focused around hunger relief and supporting organizations such as Food Bank For NYC. After sampling desserts guests could go downstairs and munch on pizza while playing a few tables in the Borgata Casino area.

Jim Goldman, Godiva’s CEO gave a speech to thank those in attendance and reinstated the importance of standing up in the fight against hunger.  Celebrity chef, Duff Goldman of Ace of Cakes prepared a gorgeous and delicious cake for the five year celebration.

All in all, it was an amazing night of sampling various desserts, chef sitings, and raising money for a great cause.
