Many of us may remember curling up with a great book that captured our imaginations growing up that the stories we read, gave us a passion for reading, writing or even just being inspired by the characters themselves. Each of us likely remembers a book that we now as mothers may see our own children read today.
However, more than 29 million children across North America who live in low-income households have limited access to age-appropriate books at home and attend schools with classrooms and programs that are often under-resourced.
To promote literacy in young children, Kumon and First Book Canada, a non-profit that provides new books to children in need, have joined forces. This joint literacy campaign will see the distribution of more than 10,000 books to schools and community based programs in Canada.
In line with this initiative, Kumon and First Book will host reading celebrations in at high needs elementary schools across the country. Students will enjoy presentations from local children’s authors and illustrators and have the opportunity to read with Kumon instructors. Each student will also receive a brand new signed copy of the author’s book to take home.
To get started on this celebration we’re thrilled to host a giveaway filled with books and some other fun things like highlighters, pencils and more. This incredible prize pack is valued at $75 and includes items pictured on the left.

Love You Forever by Robert Munsch had a real impact on me as a child and is still my favorite book today.
One book I remember reading when I was a young child was Jillian Jigs by Robert Munch. It made an impact on my childhood because it taught me to always use my imagination. I love reading this book to my students till this day.
